=========================================================================== Advanced engine needed : GZdoom Primary purpose : Single play only =========================================================================== Title : Firetop Mountain Filename : FTOPMTN.WAD Release date : 5th May, 2012 Author : glenzinho Email Address : glenmccoll@yahoo.com.au Other Files By Author : Park of Doom, Blood Lake, Jailbreak Misc. Author Info : Melbourne, Australia. Original 1994 Doomer O.G. Doom still floats my boat Description : This is first new project in over 10 years. Actually started making this back in the 1997 before I took a "hiatus" so to speak. The idea for the map is based off of those old Fighting Fantasy books where you used dice and blah blah, particularly the first book The Warlock of Firetop Mountain. Back in the day I sketched out the map as described in the book and decided to make a Doom level on it. Story : Zagor, the Warlock of Firetop Mountain has risen again, this time drawing on the Doom Demons to power his resurrection. His spiritual being of fire & brimstone has been infused into the physical body of an Archvile... needless to say he is now quite a formidable foe. It's up to you, you Doomed Guy, to cut a bloody swathe through his bloodthirsty demonic hordes and once and for all slay Zagor, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain. Additional Credits to : The usual, id the creators, Randy & Graf for Z & GZDoom, CodeImp for DoomBuilder, SlayeR for SlumpEd Tormentor667 for Realm667 & The Bestiary Enjay and his thread on EndSequence Cast stuff on the ZDoom forums. Hey Enjay, I can remember playing NJDoom2 back in Late '94-Early '95 and ripping your awesome ENDOOM screen! The following guys answered my noob editing questions on the DW forums about slopes & format conversions, adding an inanimate object with Decorate and changing the default weapon: Phml Rex Pottus GreyGhost chubz Eponasoft Xaser and especially Gez, who answered on all 3 of my editing threads and who always seems to have an answer for everyone Rsources used : Lots of mid-textures from the Plutonia/TNT texture pack Textures from Blood, Witchaven, Duke 3D, 5th Episode packs The Warlock is from the Bestiary on Realm667 Pictures from The Warlock of Firetop Mountain and a few more textures from packs I don't quite remember =========================================================================== * What is included * New levels : 1 Sounds : Yes Music : Yes Graphics : Yes Files required : GZDoom running with lights.pk3 and brightmaps.pk3, DOOM2.WAD Recommended settings : This map was developed with these settings in GZDoom using lights.pk3 and brightmaps.pk3: DYNAMIC LIGHTS PREFERENCES Light Size 0.8 Sector Light Mode DOOM Fog Mode RADIAL * Play Information * Game : DOOM2 Map # : MAP01 Single Player : Designed for Cooperative 2-4 Player : No player starts Deathmatch 2-4 Player : No player starts Difficulty Settings : Not implemented, one size fits all Gameplay : There is falling damage implemented in this map, so take care and don't fall while mountain climbing..... This is map is large in scale, but not terribly complicated... it took me 1 hour and 1 minute to get 99%/97%/100% (Don't know where those last 3 monsters got to! ;) A lot of monsters but not in slaughtermap style congregations.... well maybe one battle ;) Hopefully an enjoyable boss fight, but I don't know how you play so I'm not promising anything! Can you say... INFIGHTING!!! * Construction * Base : Modified the my Firetop Mountain, which was about 15% of what you see here when I first started this project in March 1997. Build Time : Not including 1997, a few hours most days March 19,2012 until May, 2012. A lot of this time was spent learning and studying ZDoom mapping, Doom in Hexen format, and zdoom lump things. Editor(s) used : Doom Builder v2.1.0.1356, SlumpEd v0.7 Originally used Deu 5.21 and BSP v1.1TC in 1997 Known Bugs : Negligible in GZDoom, for normal ZDoom see below May Not Run With... : ZDoom, other source ports. Doesn't load on ZDoom v2.5.0r2508 Contains GLDEFS and DOOMDEFS lumps etc that will not work with ZDoom but funnily enough it's something in MAPINFO that stops it from loading. I am not going to fix this as I only play GZDoom and this is what I developed the map under. If it takes your fancy to make it ZDoom compatible be my guest. * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY use the contents of this file as a base for modification or reuse.
